Finger Waves (The Vintage Tech) The Look: Sculpte Finger Waves (The Vintage Tech)
The Look: Sculpted, high-gloss "S" shapes that lie flat against the scalp.
The Science: Molding the hair’s "wet" bonds into a specific direction and "setting" them with high-hold polymers.
The Styling Goal: Precision & Molding.
Student Tip: Remember the "C.O.W." method (Comb, Over, Wiggle). Use the side of your finger as a "dam" to push the ridge against to ensure it stands up.
Key Tool: Fine-Tooth Tail Comb. The close-set teeth provide the tension required to drag the hair into those tight, iconic ridges.
Razor (cutting razor) - Creates soft, feathered ed Razor (cutting razor) - Creates soft, feathered edges and adds texture to the hair. Make sure you replace your razor blades to maintain sharpness and ensure hygiene.

Looking back, I never could have imagined that starting out in this industry would lead to traveling the world, presenting British hairdressing education.

To all the ABLE students out there: never think your dreams are too big. Dedication and hard work will always pay off. Keep pushing, keep learning, and trust the process.🙏
A huge congratulations to the @hbcharityuk as the A huge congratulations to the @hbcharityuk as they celebrate an incredible 195 years of supporting hair and beauty professionals and their families. 💜🎉

For nearly two centuries, they've been there for our industry through life's challenges, offering practical, emotional and financial support when it's needed most.

As the next generation of hair and beauty professionals, we encourage all ABLE students to connect with the Hair & Beauty Charity, learn about the fantastic work they do, and keep them in mind throughout your careers. You never know when you, a colleague, or a client may benefit from the support they provide.

Here's to 195 years of caring, and many more to come. Congratulations from everyone at ABLE! 💜

A huge well done to @lindabennett.hair from @west A huge well done to @lindabennett.hair from @westlancashirecollege , the winner of our ABLE End of Year Project 2026! 🏆
Linda transformed her client's hair into a stunning graduated bob, doing a fantastic job of sharpening up the perimeter and adding beautiful dimension. We love how the red underlay injects a brilliant pop of fun into the style.
Huge congratulations, Linda! 👏🥇
Modern Crimping (Texture Expansion) The Look: Un Modern Crimping (Texture Expansion)

The Look: Uniform, serrated zig-zags that create massive internal volume.
The Science: Compressing the hair into tight angles to create "structure" and lift that resists gravity.
The Styling Goal: Foundation & Volume.
Student Tip: Try "Hidden Crimping." Only crimp the 2 inches closest to the root on the interior sections to double the hair's thickness while keeping the top "veil" smooth. Key Tool: Micro-Crimping Iron. Smaller plates allow you to get closer to the scalp for maximum root lift without visible "steps."
After another wonderful year of the ABLE programme After another wonderful year of the ABLE programme, it is finally time to announce our end-of-year competition results! 🏆
A huge congratulations to Alexandra Bamber from @westlancashirecollege , who is our runner-up this year! We absolutely loved her modern take on the graduated bob, featuring gorgeous pink hues throughout and a fun, vibrant pink moment at the front.
Amazing work, Alexandra!! 🤩👏

Keep you eyes peeled for Friday, when we will be announcing our winner!!
Last weekend I had the pleasure of presenting acro Last weekend I had the pleasure of presenting across the weekend on the @fellowshiphair stage at @hairconshow. It was a truly inspiring event as always. I really hope, as students of this industry, you think about attending shows like this. They are incredible for networking, inspiration and learning. For those of you I did see there, thank you for saying hello and adding to an already brilliant weekend.

You’ve probably seen my posts sharing the incredible work they do for children losing their hair, but here is an industry fact for my ABLE students: Did you know that @banburypostiche_wigsuk are one of the wig makers for the Little Princess Trust?

🧵Banbury Postiche is the oldest wig-making supplier in the UK (founded in 1914!). Every single strand of hair donated to the charity goes through their master technicians. They hand-tie over 30,000 individual stitches to turn those raw donations into beautiful, custom wigs for the kids.

As one of my go to places for all my hairdressing supplies, not just wigs, I would recommend all my students familiarise themselves with the Banbury Postiche website.
The Glass Press (Silk Press) The Look: High-shin The Glass Press (Silk Press)

The Look: High-shine, liquid-smooth movement that mimics Type 1 hair.
The Science: Using heat to temporarily break hydrogen bonds and "stretch" the cortex of textured hair.
The Styling Goal:Maximum Sleekness & Mirror Shine.
Student Tip: Use the "Chase Method." Lead your flat iron with a fine-tooth carbon comb to align every strand before the heat hits it.
Key Tool: Titanium Flat Iron. Titanium provides the consistent, high-pass heat needed to seal the cuticle of thicker textures in one go.

I’m often asked what I love about my job and there I’m often asked what I love about my job and there’s a long list, but sharing ideas and ways of working has to be the top of it! Creating beautiful hair & working with other creatives who care passionately about what they do.

This week I visited the awesome team and beautiful salon @12trimstreet in Bath in my role as NAK European Brand Ambassador. It was pure joy spending the day with the team. Whilst I am usually the one creating hair looks and educating, I am still always learning from those around me and that is what I love about our particular industry!

The "Z" Pattern (The Zig-Zag) The Look: Sharp ang The "Z" Pattern (The Zig-Zag)

The Look: Sharp angles rather than curves. The hair bends back and forth in a "Z" shape.
The Science: This pattern has the most "points of weakness" where the hair bends, making it the most fragile.
The Styling Goal: Elongation & Protection.
Student Tip: Focus on Shrinkage Management. Techniques like "Banding" or "Twist-outs" help show off the length while keeping the hair organized.
Key Tool: A Steamer. Steam allows the hair to absorb moisture deeply, making the "Z" pattern more pliable and less prone to snapping.
